Privacy notice

The short version: we designed this site so there is nothing interesting to know about you.

Votes. Votes are stored only as aggregate counters: question, article, answer, month, and — if you chose to tell us — age band, gender and UK region. There is no record linking any vote to any person, device or IP address. We cannot look up how you voted; the data to do so does not exist.

The one cookie. If you accept the cookie bar, we set a single first-party cookie (chp_v, 13 months). It contains a random ID generated in your browser and any demographics you chose to declare. We keep no server-side copy tied to it. It exists so we can (a) discourage double voting — we store a one-way hash of the random ID mixed with each question — and (b) show you "people like you" comparisons. Decline it and the site still works; you just lose those two things. No analytics cookies, no third-party cookies, ever.

Demographics. Optional, skippable, stored only in your cookie on your device, and used only to pick which anonymous counter goes up by one. Any demographic group with fewer than 50 votes on a question displays as "not enough votes yet" — on the public site and in our own exports alike.

IP addresses. Used in memory at the moment you vote for two things — a country check and rate limiting (as a salted hash that expires within the hour) — and never written to any table or log.

Page counting. We count page views server-side as plain per-day totals per article. No visitor identifiers of any kind.

Your rights. Under UK GDPR you have rights over personal data we hold about you. Our design goal is to hold none. If you believe we hold any, contact [CONTACT EMAIL — FOR LEGAL REVIEW].
